Every year on the blog, I like to set myself from goals. Not in terms of views or interaction, because that’s beyond my control. My goals are more in line of things I want to do. For this year, I had seven goals. Now that we’re almost at the end of the year, it’s time to look back and see how I did.
Author Interviews
Partial Success. At the start of the year, I interviewed Black Library author Steven B. Fischer, but I haven’t done any others since. I do have two potential interviews lined up for early next year, but a fair few opportunities have fallen through the cracks for one reason or another. I’ll be recommitting to this goal for next year.
Community
Success. I launched the Boundary’s Edge Social Club, and there are already several members. We’ve had some great conversations, and buddy reads are in the works for January. I’m happy with how this one is going.
Conventions
Failure. I made it to SFW XIV in March, which was enjoyable, but I didn’t manage to get to any others. However, I did manage to squeeze in a trip to the USA, which did involve a fair few nerdy activities. I’m keeping an eye on next year’s convention schedule.
Deep Dive
Partial Success. I started the year by doing a deep dive on every book I read, but soon realised that not every book has something worth diving deeply into. Rather than struggle on, I chose to drop this aspect of my reviews. Instead, I think I’m going to work on separate deep dive articles for next year.
Discover New Authors
Partial Success. I’ve discovered a few new authors this year, mostly coming up through Black Library. Newer, non-IP writers, however, continue to elude me. In particular, this is yet another year without me reading a non-Warhammer debut. On the other hand, I have discovered some new-to-me older authors, notably Orson Scott Card, who I hope to continue reading next year.
Empires of Science Fiction
Failure. I managed to publish my introduction to this project, but somewhat stalled after that. No justifications here, I’ve just been slacking.
Halo
Success. Ending on a high, I delved quite deeply into the worlds of Halo this year. The books themselves have been a bit of a mixed bag, but the more I read, the more I see how everything is connected. There’ll definitely be more Halo in my future reading plans.
So, only two goals failed. That’s not too shabby. I’m already working on ideas for next year, so stay tuned to find out what I’ll be up to in 2024.
