It’s been a hot minute since I checked in with Black Library’s release schedule. In my defence, it is quite hard to keep track of. The official Coming Soon page has been discontinued, and so we have to rely on the occasional announcement that quickly gets lost in the flood of Warhammer Community articles. If you’re in a similar boat to me and want to know what Warhammer 40,000 releases you can still look forward to this year, then I hope this little list will prove to be of some use.
This coming weekend sees three books go up for preorder. Firstly, Mike Brooks tackles the Aeldari in Voidscarred. This is the first Aeldari novel in a good long while, and Brooks is one of the most reliably entertaining authors in the current Black Library stable, so I have high hopes for this one. On the other hand, I don’t know what to expect of Mike Vincent’s The Remnant Blade. I’m not a huge fan of Choas Space Marines, so I expect I’ll get the audiobook of this one. Finally, we have Darkness Eternal, which is the latest anthology of grimdark short stories. These are always a good source of entertainment, and I’m hoping to find some new favourite authors inside its covers. This anthology is also heading straight to paperback, which is always a nice treat for a cheapskate like me.
This past week, Black Library also unveiled a slew of Astra Militarum novels, some of which have come as a huge surprise. First off, Steve Lyons is back with more Krieg in the form of The Relentless Dead. It’s nice to see the Death Korps getting more attention, and I’m sure this will be another solid read. Meanwhile Robbie MacNiven takes to the skies with Vagabond Squadron. There have been some absolutely phenomenal Aeronautica novels lately, from Dan Abnett’s Interceptor City to Denny Flowers’ Outgunned and Above and Beyond, so my fingers are firmly crossed for another strong aerial adventure in the grimdark future.
Meanwhile on the ground, Andy Clark brings us Demolisher, featuring the heavy metal of Imperial tank units. What makes this one special is that it’s a direct sequel to Steel Tread. For those who don’t know, Steel Tread was one of the recent books released under the ‘Astra Militarum’ banner, which have all been standalone until now. this could be a one off based on the book’s popularity, but as well as hoping for a good read, I’m hoping it means more Astra Militarum Sequels, especially of those are sequels to Rob Young’s Longshot or Victoria Hayward’s Deathworlder.
Less is known about Jonathan D Beer’s Tomb World (a Necron novel) and Marc Collins’ Krakenblood (a Space Wolves novel), but I’ll keep my eyes and ears open.
A lot of these books are also getting deluxe editions, but as a grubby little paperback enjoyer, I’m not in a rush to join the queue for those. I expect a lot to release towards Christmas, and likely some further word on the Horus Heresy sequel series The Scouring too.
Anyway, I hope this has been informative, and if you know of any other Black Library books coming out in the near future, let me know.
